data format for hierarchyid

Hi,

I create a field with hierarchyid data type. Then try to input some data, however, when I input a digit "1" or a text "a", sql server will always complain and said the data is invalid, and it does not tell me what is the correct data format. So, can anyone tell me the correct format for hierarchyid?
